About

In the last decades, the volume of scientific output has surged dramatically, driven by an increase in the number of researchers worldwide and the pervasive “publish or perish” culture that pressures academics to produce new work continually. While this proliferation creates a vast repository of knowledge that fosters innovation, cross-disciplinary discoveries, and rapid advancements in science and technology, it also presents significant challenges. The overwhelming volume of research outputs makes it difficult for researchers to identify valuable and relevant research, often leading to information overload. This highlights the pressing need for advanced techniques, tools, and services to help researchers efficiently navigate the expanding body of scientific knowledge and extract high-quality information with ease.

The Scientific Knowledge Management (Sknow) Lab at ATHENA RC is dedicated to advancing modern techniques in scientific knowledge management to tackle the challenges associated with the ever-growing landscape of scientific knowledge. Our research spans a diverse range of areas, including traditional big data management, graph analysis, scientometrics, and knowledge graphs. We focus on harnessing these technologies to develop innovative solutions that effectively serve and empower the scientific community.
